Hi! The images below showcase one way that image editing may be used for educational purposes – in this case, to highlight predator and prey.
Predator
For this image, I duplicated the whole image into a second layer. In the background layer, I applied a noise distortion – you can see the background is grainy. In the foreground layer, I used the magnetic lasso to painstakingly trace the contours of the hawk and delete everything else to leave only the hawk emphasized.
Prey
For this image, I followed the same process as above, except to emphasize the prey.
How the Prey Views the Predator
In education, this image may be used for humor or to grab attention. For this image, I went back to the hawk layers, overlaid them with a dark grey color with slightly less than full opacity. I also made layers for the hawks eyes and overlaid those red. The effect is quite fitting.
