Hawk Swoops to Capture Delicious Rabbit
Predator Swoops to Capture Prey

Hi! The images below showcase one way that image editing may be used for educational purposes – in this case, to highlight predator and prey.

Predator

Hawk is emphasized

For this image, I duplicated the whole image into a second layer. In the background layer, I applied a noise distortion – you can see the background is grainy. In the foreground layer, I used the magnetic lasso to painstakingly trace the contours of the hawk and delete everything else to leave only the hawk emphasized.

Prey

Prey Highlighted

For this image, I followed the same process as above, except to emphasize the prey.

How the Prey Views the Predator

The prey views the predator as a red and black demon bird.
Prey’s Perspective of Predator

In education, this image may be used for humor or to grab attention. For this image, I went back to the hawk layers, overlaid them with a dark grey color with slightly less than full opacity. I also made layers for the hawks eyes and overlaid those red. The effect is quite fitting.
